Who We Are
About Altar Guild
A volunteer group of laypeople who care for the physical space, sacred vessels and linens used in Christian worship, working quietly behind the scenes to prepare for services and clean up afterwards. Preparation and Setup Set up the communion elements including bread, wine, chalices and paten. Arrange the correct altar clothes and seasonal hangings according to the liturgical calendar. Light and maintain candles, including altar torch and sanctuary candles. Prepare specific items for special services like baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Care of Sacred Items Launder and carefully iron sacred linens like corporals, purificators and fair linens Polish brass and silver and other metal liturgical vessels Restock consumable supplies such as communion wafers, wine and oil Sanctuary maintenance and décor Coordinates arranges and waters altar flowers Decorate the sanctuary for major holy seasons like Christmas and Easter Clean up the altar area extinguish candles, and securely store vessels after services conclude
